25 points Summary of the idea/dream: Why are many of us so obsessed with being popular and why do we need it? For many people it's just a way to self-assertion and for some people another way to show off...I'd like to expose the truth of the popularity myth and all the consequences it might have....
Popularity is a massively serious business and a lot of people sink too low to get it and keep it. It happens everywhere in all social levels and groups and at all ages and generations. Let's take schools or colleges when popularity obsession beats all records. Turn up in the wrong clothes, a pair of jeans too high around the waist or last year's sneakers and you'll be having lunch with your friends' backs. Play your cards right, say the right amount of funny things in class and be seen with a few of the right people and you'll be climbing the popularity ladder to dizzying heights.
But what is all that for? Why are we acting like idiots for a piece of it? What makes the popular kids so special and cool?
I don't know about you, but when I think about the most popular girls in my years at school and now in college, I'm very hard-pressed to think of anything that made them "superior" and stand out of the crowd. They were all far from being stunners, were not particularly
