Perhaps every person has a set of criteria for one's ideal mate. When meeting new people and liking them, a single person unconsciously checks each of them whether he or she meets any of one's criteria of a potential mate (a beloved one/a lover/a b-friend or g-friend), no matter what their initial status is.
After meeting a certain set of such people one may either choose the most pertinent date intuitively, led by one's senses, or get involved in a complex process of selection, led by one's mind.
If the first way doesn't work out, e.g. not a spontaneous sensual decision can be made, one usually takes the second way, making a list of criteria and picking only the potential dates fitting all of its points. [Basically, this is the way I had chosen ;)]
However, the problem I faced on this stage was a big number of girls meeting my criteria.
