According to NLP, when we speak we tend to reveal our thinking habits, e.g. Deletion, Distortion and Generalization.
Deletion occurs when we reproduce information selectively, omitting some important points we consider unnecessary to say. For example, when recalling what we know about a social group we are biased against, we usually recall the negative aspects, forgetting the positive ones.
Distortion occures when we reproduce information changed in accordance with out subjective perceptional specificity (plus attitudes). For example when describing a person we dislike we may say "He looks like a vulture", imposing our biased perception to others.
However the prevalent thinking habit is generalization. It's also the most complex one. It occures when we attribute one particular quality to all representatives of a certain group, ignoring individual diversity, or one behavioral pattern to a certain preiod of time.
