I can share my experience from what have worked on my kid.
Firstly in the middle of his first year, when he started to cry when his daddy or mommy were leaving the room, we stayed behind the door for about 10 seconds and were back greeting, praising him and giving him lots of cuddle and kisses. Thus he understood that the parents didn't leave him forever and were always back.
