Summary of the idea/dream: My idea is using semantic differential for analysing the individual perception of different kinds of music.
I spend a lot of time and traffic downloading new music from Internet, and until a song is downloaded succesfully you can never tell whether you'll like it or not. My idea is using the semantic differential psychological research method for starting a brand new dimension of music rating.
Semantic differential is a popular instrument for conducting cognitive and attitude studies by measuring the semantic distances between submodal representations of different concepts and images subsisting in our cognitive maps. Usually 5-7 submodality scales are used for measuring different representations of a concept or image in our mind: for instance we can measure the position of any concept between such ambivalent poles as hot/cold smouth/rough light/heavy bright/dark quick/slow sweet/bitter round/angular active/passive etc.
I'm going to implement this method for analysing music of different cultures, different genres and different performers on a random sample of listeners
