The situation is:

People in the bus see a person running after the bus, already starting. He fails to run down and get on the bus. When the bus comes up to the next bus-stop, a breathless guy seeming to be the guy running after the bus earlier, enters. Breathing hard he says "Oh, I've managed at last!"

The effect is impressive! The next 10 minutes people stare at you staggering and then start to converse in whispers.
