There is a serious problem with English orthography: the mapping between written and spoken languages is sufficiently irregular to complicate learning the language. Many people have suggested this to be fixed by spelling reform, by altering the written language. However, given the massive amount of text that uses the existing orthography, and the fact that some of us now read ian order of magnitude more than they ever hear, it seems obvious that the correct approach is speaking reform.
We should pick some regular mapping from writing to speech, then change the way we pronounce words to match that. I'm sure a consensus solution will be easy to find.
