Summary of the idea/dream: My idea is developing sense of rhythm simply by listening to music of rich rhythmic composition, like classics, ethnic music, jazz, fusion, progressive and art-rock.
You know, the rhythms usually used in modern pop music are plain electronic 3/4 or 4/4, considered primitive by professional musicians. This way, when listening to such music one gets used to dancing with this primitive 3/4 accompaniment and scarcely develops a special sense of harmonic rhythm.
Musicians see only two ways of developing one's sense of rhythm - it's either long years of academic studies of music or... simply listening to music with complex rhythmic composition, like classics, ethnic music, jazz, fusion, art-rock and progressive rock.
This way merely listening to Bach, Chopin, Pink Floyd, Luois Arstrong, Dream Theater, Yes, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Rush, Kansas, Equinox and many other bands making music with exceptional rhythmic structure, e.g. complex cascading and syncopated rhythms, will increase your sense of rhythm noticeably.
