I think old Ziggy was right, dreams is our best way for accessing our inner world.
Dormant counsciousness generates seemingly random images and situations assembled of the thoughts, emotions and sensory experiences we accumulated before.
Salvador Dali creted his brilliant paintings on the basis of his nightdreams; Mendeleyev saw the concept of periodic table of elements in his dreams; pop Irish singer Bjork makes plots for her clips of her dreams.

So try memorizing and using components of your dreams in order to be creative :D
